THISION cinema is the olderst Cinema in the city of Athens, built in 1935. It has been operating eversince every Spring and Summer, with a forced pause during WW2. Since 1980, the cinema has been in our family, the Maniakis family, and has been taken care of and transformed into a quaint little paradise in the historical center of Athens, right underneath the Acropolis.
Up to today, we put in the time, attention and love in this historic cinema and we keep neat, green and in harmony with the location, respecting the history and tradition, not only of our city, but those of the open air cinemas of old… the cinemas that we know best, after operating as one for over 50 years.
We also put a great attention to the selection of movies we play every year, among which are a lot of classics that have been loved and are still beloved. We also take a good look at the latest movies as well and we select the best ones for our audience. During the whole winter we watch movies, stay informed whila at the same time we take care of our cinema so we can provide you the ultimate experience of a cinema in the heart of Athens.
Overlooking the illuminated Acropolis, with some homemade sweet sour cherries as well as our own handmade liquor or an ice cold homemade sour cherry juice, we offer a whole new level of open air cinema experience.
If on the other hand you would rather have something less sweet, you can try our fresh baked cheese-pie or even a Hot Dog, maybe accompanied with some traditional tsipouro.
Our cinema bar is here to provide you anything you might want to enjoy your movie, seated in our comfortable seats and tables, while enjoying the atmosphere of our cinema.
